Student Ambassador Scheme

I’ve been a Student Ambassador the entire time I was a student at Sunderland. It’s something I highly recommend applying for, not only does it look great on your CV, it’s incredibly rewarding and a whole lot of fun! Don’t believe me? Just check out this video… you may spot a familiar face!

June 29th, 2014

An envelope arrived yesterday from Sunderland Uni, I saw it before I went out to the hairdressers but didn’t think much of it. Earlier in the week I received my graduation tickets, so I just presumed it was something relating to that. After returning from the hairdressers and going back through town to meet up with a friend, I had around an hour at home to get lunch before going back out (yep, I’m sure yesterday was one of the busiest days I’ve had in a long time!) As I was stood chatting in the kitchen and browsing facebook, I spotted one of the girls from my dissertation group had announced her results. I panicked! I asked her if the results had popped up online on Evision early (which would have been sneaky) but her response ‘came in the post’ had me rushing to the porch to grab that letter I’d shrugged off at 8:45am!

All of a sudden it hit me. Whatever was written inside this letter was the result of three years of hard work. I took a deep breath and opened it. Yes, it was my results. Well, it was my entire transcript of results from all the modules I’ve done over the past three years. I quickly skimmed the first page before turning to page 2, the one where I’d find out what I’d been given for my dissertation and overall for my degree.

76 overall for our dissertation, wow! All that hard work had paid off, all the stress, the late nights, waking up and thinking I was meant to be mixing sound when it was 4am was all worth it. Ahhhh! Now for the overall degree classification.

I saw those three words and burst into tears. I could barely see the words on the page, but I knew I’d read it right. I still can’t explain how it feels and I didn’t expect to cry when I saw it, but it all just got too much. I knew I’d worked hard and I knew I was going to be on the borderline of a 2:1 and a 1st, but I didn’t know if I could actually do it.

Happy doesn’t really cover it and every time I think about it, I could cry again I’m just so surprised!

I definitely earned that cake I had yesterday when I went back out and I can completely justify buying a few things I’ve had my eye on now.

What a week, a graduate job and I’m going to graduate with a first! Wow!

June 23rd, 2014

Amazing news! I was successful and they offered me the job this morning. I accepted and I start in a few weeks. I’m so happy and really looking forward to it. I was given some amazing feedback, she said I blew her away in the interview with my responses and she’s been interviewing for ten years or so, so that’s a pretty big deal. It’s crazy to think I’ve secured a graduate job before I’ve even graduated! I should be getting my results next Monday though, eeep!! Not long to go now!

Anyway, this is what I wore today, a simple striped dress, my sandals and my fedora that you will have seen in another recent post. You may notice I’ve  added a lilac dye to my ombré, it’s only semi-permanent so should wash out before graduation (hopefully)!

Working with 180 year 6 students!

Yup, as you can probably tell from the title – it’s been a pretty crazy day. I do love ambassador work though, it’s so rewarding and I enjoy meeting all the different people at events.  Today it was a Primary event with lots of year 6 students. As always, Professor John Kilcoyne was there to do his Chemistry talk/demonstration and the students always love it. I think I’m going to do a post and a video about being a student ambassador sometime in the next few weeks – when I find I have a spare afternoon! It’s crazy, you’d think that because I’m now finished all my university work that I’d have loads of spare time, but it’s really not the case at all!

A Graduate Job Interview

Today I had my first graduate job interview. It’s really hard to tell if it went well or not – but I find you can never really decide that after any interview! All you can do is answer all the questions you’re asked as confidently as possible and get across your experiences to demonstrate your skills and why you’re the right person for the job!

OBviously, after the interview I went for a coffee – not only so I could plan out some blog posts, but to see my barista sister and check how her coffee-making skills are going!

I hope I get it, but I’ll let you know either way… as I’ll find out next Monday! Eeep!

Casual Summer Outfit

It’s been a while since I last talked about fashion and outfits on here, but today I want to show you one of my go-to summer outfits and something that’s become a bit of a must-have for me lately.

I think smock dresses are really flattering, especially for summer BBQ’s and going for meals, because no one will know if you’ve eaten too much and feel like you’ve got a bit of a food baby! They’re great for keeping you cool too.

My new thing is the black fedora. It’ll come as no surprise to you, that I’m a fan of hats (you’ve probably seen past posts with my bobble hats) so when I spotted this one, from ASOS, I thought I’d give it a go. It’s so easy to wear and I think I’ll probably end up buying another colour too.

Handing in My Final Assignment

I’m no stranger to this vlogging business, so here’s my little vlog from when I handed in my final assignment. I thought I’d have some time to myself now I’ve finished everything for university but for some reason, I’ve still been busy! I’ll explain what I’ve been up to in my next sit-down and chat video, which should be up next week.
