‘Repping Spark FM at Festivals in 2015!

Yo!

This week I was sent a few emails by Mr Head of Music @ Spark. Essentially, festival period is afoot and Spark are going to need to be there to bring the best in music, to the people of Sunderland, or the world for online listeners.

Here’s where I come into that- I want to go to whatever festival I can, all in an effort to interview some of the biggest names in Music, all whilst they’re there to do what they love doing! Who wouldn’t want that? I was asked to send a text email paragraph explaining why I should get to go, as well as who I’d want to interview, as well as what I’d ask them.

Me being me, I decided to go with a video instead.. Hope you don’t mind Music Man!

Check it out down belowwwww!

An Editorial Shift at SR News!

Holla! This is going to be as quick a post as I can make it, purely because I’m ravenous.

Today was the day I was essentially, for all informed purposes, Editor for the SR News bulletins that go out every hour from the SR News Booth, on Spark.

[youtube id=”f8sYWTn9eZI”]

This basically means that I was the deciding factor in whether or not a story went ahead into a bulletin, out on-air. As well as that, I was tasked to make sure that everyone was doing a job and that the online platforms of the Media Hub were getting the correct attention too.

As stressful as it might sound, (Or not, depending on who you are and what your job is.) I didn’t actually get stressed at all. I feel like I kept a level head throughout the day and managed in the role well. Every bulletin was a success and had audio clips or interviews other than the actual newsreader in, which is one of the more desirable things in a bulletin. (Could I say that ‘b’ word anymore? Probably..)

ANYWAYS, to sum up- EVERYTHING WENT WELL AND I LOVED IT!

All Things Music & Spark

Aloha pals, how are we all doing?

This is just a quick post while I attempt to finish an essay that’s due in tomorrow! (Wish me luck, I need it.)

If you’ve already read some of my posts throughout my time as a Lives Online blogger, you’ll know it’s no secret that I love all things music, I think Music Monday proves that. It’s also no secret how much I’m involved with Spark.

If you’re new to my page; hello, nice to kind of, almost, not really meet you. I’m Liam, a guy who has changed university courses so many times it’s silly. I’m  a massive fan of a wide mix of music, and work on Sunderland’s radio station; Spark FM. (http://www.sparksunderland.com/) on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, as well as any other day they need me and I’m free.

So far, I’ve been able to do a lot of cool things, most notably; interview Rob Coles, the lead singer of local North East band Little Comets. I should mention that Little Comets are probably my most favourite band. They’re a local gem!

IMG_2978

Most recently though, and I’m talking really recently (Friday 6th, -3 days ago at the time of writing) I got to head up to Newcastle and interview, watch and review a band that I L.O.V.E. Glass Animals are an Oxford originating band that are just, generally mint. I can’t quite put them in a specific genre box, other than ‘Free Adventure’- which, is what I told them and they seemed to dig it.

They’re already massive in places like America and Australia, and they’re getting bigger here in the UK now too. They’re playing festivals like Reading, Leeds and even Coachella in the States.. Can you see why I was freaking out a little?

They were fantastic to speak to, and they put on an amazing show. At the moment, I feel like it was one of the best live gigs I’ve seen yet. I also got the offer to write a review, which I lapped up the chance to do. It’s now live over at: http://www.sparksunderland.com/featured/2015/03/glass-animals-in-newcastle/ – Take a look, I’d love to know what you think! The lads tweeted me today as well, which I’ll not lie about- I fan boy’ed at.

When the interview is aired, and put online, I’ll be making sure I put it on here for you to listen to! Stay tuned!

Lives Online Photoshoot!

Aloha folks!

This week I thought I’d show something that I don’t exactly do every day..

Recently I, along with the rest of the Lives Online bloggers of this year were asked to be apart of the new University of Sunderland Prospectus, for the next academic year.

Yes, thats right. Someone, somewhere thought it would be a great idea to not only have my face online, but in a course magazine as well. Crazy I know.

All that in mind, I thought it would be a fantastic idea if I took my camera along with me to vlog it all. While it took a lot more time than I thought it would, and when I wasn’t awkwardly stood in position in fear of messing up a shot; it was actually pretty good. It has to be said though, I have a whole new level of admirition for actual legit models now. And so I should, I mean.. I am one now, right? (I’m kidding but only a little.)

Check out the video down below to see what I got up to.. Enjoy!

Music Monday #10

BIRTHDAY EDITION OF MUSIC MONDAY SAY WHUUUUT!

Aloha, how are we all?

I’ll be honest and say that I was, for all intense purposes, pretty meh. I usually am on my birthday though, so do not fear to much. Of course, this particular birthday meh’ness was made bigger by the 5am wake-up I had. Yeah, that ought to do it right?

BUT

THEN I GOT TO FINALLY HEAR THE ALBUM I’VE WAITED AN AGE FOR!

That’s right, after wishing me a happy birthday, (Yes, that happened. Cheers lads.) Little Comets finally released their brand new album, ‘Hope Is Just a State of Mind’ and, in the most Geordie accent possible (they’re a local band, y’see) – IS PURE MINT! There honestly isn’t a track on it that I don’t like.

Down below is the 1st track on said album, it’s ‘My Boy William’.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aJqM9bFSb8

It’s so good right? I’m right, I know. If you’re not so much a fan of LC, then that’s not ok and we just can’t be friends. Kidding. Mostly. Ha ha. Enjoyyyyy!

Turning 20 at University

Why hello there. How might you be doing today?

What, I’m talking strange? Well my good human, thats because today (February 16th, 2015) I turned 20 years old. So I need to talk adult now.

KIDDING. BUT NO, SERIOUSLY- I TURNED 20. CRAZY, I KNOW!

I can’t really believe it. I’m still cracking childish jokes and not drinking coffee yet, so I’m not fully adult. Don’t worry!

As it’s a Monday, (Worst day to have a birthday, amiright?) I spent the weekend just gone, at home with the famalama. When I wasn’t working, that is.  Whilst at home, I got my camera and tripod out (because who doesn’t just always have those two things out.) and decided to film an incredibly quick video. When I say incredibly quick, I mean it- purely to not eat into too much famalama time.

Can’t quite describe what this video is.. So yeah, just watch it.

[youtube id=”p0-5YF1Z0ak”]

As far as my birthday at University so far- I stayed up till Midnight to open cards and my present that my flatmates got me. It was a Lava Lamp. A LAVA LAMP. YES! And then decided that because I was on the Spark Breakfast show as I normally would be, I should probably sleep. The show is now complete and YES, I AM VERY TIRED! Sadly, I’m in university till 5pm, BUT I do plan on heading to Nando’s for some food later on tonight, so there’s at least something to get me through the day!

*KLAXSON* – My favourite band, Little Comets did two awesome things. 1st, they wished me a Happy Birthday. 2nd and more majorly- released their brand new album, TODAY! So, I’m just happy thinking that was because they know it’s my birthday (just let me, ok?).

I think thats about it for this birthday post… BYE!

Music Monday’s #9

Hola!

This Music Monday song is a TUNE and a half, let me tell you! I love it massively at the moment.

It’s ‘Hold My Hand’ from none other than Jess Glynne. If you’ve heard it before- I’m sure you’ll already agree that it’s mint, but if you’re yet to hear it- then sit down and be ready to be schooled.

[youtube id=”CcGQ1y5XtAI”]

It’s a TUNE, amiright?

FUN STORY/SONG STORY LINK TIME!

This happened to be part of the Spark Breakfast show’s playlist this morning, and it was mint. Off air, whilst it was being played- I sat enjoying it and came to a conclusion in my head and decided I’d show it with the rest of the studio..

“If I was a runner, or any way athletic for that matter, this would definitely be one of my running songs.”

And for some reason, the three of them erupted into laughter.. maybe because of the way I said it, or maybe, just maybe (probably) it was the vision of me running. Yeah, it’s not pretty but it sure is funny!

Rightttttt, that is about it for this Music Monday.

Cheers pals, till next time!

Media Hub ‘Look Video’

Hello amigos,

For my first proper video of 2015 I thought I’d make a little ‘Look Video’ so that you get to have a little tour of a space I use all of the time at University. Seriously- I’m in it everyday!

The Media Hub! It’s a fantastic space that’s great to be in. It’s creative, friendly, busy and very jazzy.

[youtube id=”SuP-5AcTcZg”]

Cheers pals, I’m glad to be back.  Till next time!

Month/Weekend Away!

Hello my amigos. I hope you’re doing well.

I think it’s safe to say it’s been a little quiet on the ol’ blogosphere during January. BUT, I have reasons!

– My Mac decided it wasn’t happy with our relationship and needed some time away. (Yes, it broke and I needed to take it in for repair.) WHICH, caused the footage I had and was editing to go live, completely cease to exist.

– I myself had to go to the doctors for some stuff. I’m planning on making a video about in the coming days.. Which, also sounds incredibly weird, but trust me- It’ll be a worthy watch. I hope.

– I decided that, as a knock on effect to the aforementioned doctors visit I’d take a little R&R time. Kind of. Basically I just lightened the load on myself for a week or two!

BUT, after heading for a weekend away with my flatmates, I’m back! Back, after seeing the first month of 2015 off in a pretty nice way. Yes, it may have been insanely cold, but it was filled with laughs, driving, drinks, food and friends. What more could you ask for?

We headed to Morecambe, the home town of two of my friends/flatmates. It’s a lovely place!

Screen Shot 2015-02-01 at 23.23.29

We headed down to attend a local charity gig that comedian Jon Richardson arranges yearly. It was a fantastic night and a fantastic mix of laugh providers that we actually ended up going out with after. Including Angela Barnes, (Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMoSv_amUgU – STRONG LANGUAGE.) who I, at literal first meeting, for some reason decided to shake hands with. Straight away- just went in there for a handshake.

Here’s the problem with that- we were in one of the most casual of bars filled with people. Handshake. What did I think it was, a job interview?

BUT, alas it was a fantastic time. Thanks to Shannon’s famalama to being top notch hosts, and to Ben’s for being just as nice! Lets end with a photo with Jon, my flatmates and myself. Happy days!

Cheers pals, I’m glad to be back. (Not that I ever really went away!) Till next time!

Music Monday #8 – First of 2015 / Announcement!

Hola!

I’m just going to start by saying that I’ve been awake since about 5:30am and non-stop busy- all on about four hours of sleep. So if there’s a few grammatical errors that slip past me, bare with. I’m in a tired haze at the time of writing!

RIGHT THEN. Back to business.

I had to think about what the first #MM of 2015 would be, for a little while. I had so many options. SO. MANY.

And then all of a sudden, it came to me.

JAMES BAY

Forget about bae (Please. Seriously, please.) because 2015 is all about the Bay.

His first studio album ‘Chaos and the Calm’ is due out at the end of March, and I for one can’t wait. He’s also touring all over the place, and coming to Newcastle in April. I’M GOING! Tickets are still available as far as I know- so get on it and grab some. He started getting big at the end of last year and I think this year is just going to crazy explode for him.

All in all, he seems like an all round nice chap, and I think his voice is mint!

Announcement Time!

I’ve mentioned before in various places- I jumped straight into getting involved with the radio side of Spark. I must of done something right as, in quite a small period of time I’d managed to secure the gig of being a co-producer for the lovely Rosie Ramsey’s Breakfast Show, on every Monday and Wednesday 7am till 10am. (Hence the aforementioned tiredness!) and I couldn’t be happier to do so- I love it! Continuing my ‘doing something right’ streak, over the Christmas period I was asked if I was able to help out and cover-produce shows. Sadly due to other commitments I couldn’t.

BUT (And this is where it gets more interesting!)

I’m about to start working on a brand new show, full of newy newness!

I’ve now been asked to team up with a hilarious human, and friend that goes by the name of Lauren, or if you’re me- Lolen, as she’s always laughing.

TOMORROW (January 13th, 2015) is our first show. We’ll be live every Tuesday, 10-12 and I’d love you to listen. If you’d like to check us out- head on over to http://www.sparksunderland.com/ at around the 10am hour and have an ear-gander. It’s Lauren and myself, so trust me there won’t be a dull moment! I’ve had my producer hat on already and I’ve came up with tons of ideas!

None of this new show m’larky means I’ll be leaving my Breakfast amigos- oh no, not a chance. I’ll just be working on both shows. I can’t wait to get started (and wake up at a more respectable time for at least one of Spark days!).

Oh, and I’ve checked the playlist for the show- our very first song is ‘Hold Back the River’ by Mr James Bay. SEE WHAT I DID THERE? Full circle or what!

(How’d I do on the whole ‘spelling things correctly’ front? Alright? I think so..)

Make sure to check back soon for more. Also- check out the links below to keep up with me, because that’s what all the cool people are doing! Till next time palareenos,
