Radio Silence!

Monday, October 27th, 2014

Hey guys, how it going?

I feel like I need to apologize a little. I’ve been kind of ‘radio silent’ this past week. Purely down to the fact that it’s been a crazy busy week.

BUT!

I’m happy to in form you I’ve got a few video plans sorted out for tomorrow, so just stick with me that little bit longer and there’ll hopefully be a new video up tomorrow night, if not Wednesday!

My stupidly busy week finished as of 5PM last night (Sunday the 26th) when I finished work. I decided I was going to take a day break from everything and head home to the parental unit. So, I’m here now, and I’m about to get back into some university work.

IMAG1139 IMG_1194

See, photographic proof in the shape of a shameful selfie and my desk space right now.

(How cool does my atlas wall look? I realise you can actually only see a small part of it but still. Cool right?)

So yeah, bare with me that little bit longer, I’m almost there!

Music Monday’s #5.

Monday, October 27th, 2014

What’s up guys, how are you doing?

For the 5th Music Monday’s, I thought I’d make it slightly different. This week, the 5 songs are all going to be live covers. By that, I mean I’m going to show you 5 of  my favourite covers by artists trying their hand at another artists song. Shall we?

#1. Is an incredible cover (in my eyes and ears anyways.) of Drake’s ‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’ by Nick Mulvey. There’s no denying that I’m a little obsessed with Mulvey right now, so I constantly find myself listening to anything and everything he does. Check it;

#2. This week is a cover from The Vamps. They did this in Radio 1’s Live Lounge back in April and I won’t lie- I think it’s an alright crack at it. I’m not a die hard Vamps fan, which is fine I’m hardly their target demographic, but that doesn’t mean I won’t listen to them or turn it off straight away.

#3. Is a brand new one, covered by one of my favourite bands. One Republic were in the Live Lounge just a week ago and decided to cover George Ezra’s ‘Budapest’ after covered one of their songs a little while ago. I love Ryan’s voice and love the cover. It’s fantastic. Have a listen;

#4. This time around is by none other than the incredible Ed Sheeran. I’m in love with this guy right now, so I couldn’t not have him in the mix. This mashup cover was with Passenger last year and it’s awesome. I don’t think I need to say anything more on it then that; so sit back, press play and enjoy!

#5. Is a cover of a very well known Cyndi Lauper song, ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ by my current biggest obsession George Ezra. I think there has been some mixed reviews of the cover, but I love it. It’s chilled but playful. Ezra, I salute you.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lK_mWnX4s64.

#6. Sadly, it’d be impossible to do a cover album, so it’s back to standard behaviour where I throw an album for you guys to listen too. I’ve found myself listening back to Florence + The Machine’s album ‘Ceremonials’. I love this album to pieces, and whenever I listen to it, I find myself remembering seeing every song live in Newcastle a few years ago! It was incredible, she was incredible- the only thing that wasn’t was almost being smothered by the guy covered in sweat and carring a stench of weed! Enjoy the video for ‘Shake it Out’ though!;

I hope you’ve enjoyed the 5th edition of Music Monday’s, because this is where I tell you it’s taking a little bit of a holiday. Yes, I know- it’s sad, but the song pond needs time to refresh and so do I! I’m always on the look out to give you guys music you’ve never heard of but hopefully like, and I’ll still be doing that, so don’t worry. MM is just having a rest!

BUT never fear, it’ll be back soon enough!

I’ll leave you guys to feast on my music loves for this week.

Thanks and as always to keep up with me, you’ll find all of my links down below. Till next time my amigos,

Music Monday’s #4

Monday, October 20th, 2014

Bromigo’s, Sisterigo’s. It’s Monday, I know. But- before you start to cry- remember what Monday’s mean with me.. Music! Let’s get it going shall we?

#1. First up this week, it’s a band that’s already started to get the recognition they should have! I have to admit- I first properly paid attention to them when I found they were a support band for a gig I was going to for my birthday, back in February. But from then on in I loved what I heard, so I’ve followed them ever since. See- a prime example people should go to see the support acts! Down below is my favourite song by the band;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhfXl1OefI8

#2. This next one is still to this day, one of my favourite jams. I’m not even sorry. Fun fact- Marky Mark, is Mark Wahlberg. Next time you’re in a bad mood- just go over to YouTube and watch the video that’s down below. It’s hilarious, he’s so try-hard it’s painful!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eSN8Cwit_s

#3. Is like a fine wine to me. It’s a classic that never get’s old. I’ll admit I hadn’t listened to it in a little while- but when it came on (thanks Shuffle) I found out I still knew all of the words!

#4. This one is a brand spanking new one from Avicii, and I’ve listened to it so much already. It’s just a bit of a feel-good song, that sounds even better in the sun. It’s just a shame there hasn’t been too much of it lately! Take a listen;

#5. is from a North East band Little Comets, that I’m a massive fan of. They’ve been around a little while but I still love everything that they bring out. Remember the gig I mentioned going to when I talked about Catfish and the Bottlemen (#1) above? Well- it was a Little Comets gig. It was fantastic to get to see them in a ‘hometown’ gig, which was pretty much on my birthday too. Sadly, they’ve just today started a new tour and Newcastle isn’t a date on it. BUT, they tweeted me last week to promise me they’ll make sure there is a home gig soon enough. Fine by me, I’ll hold them too it.

#6. Yes, it’s album time. This week, I’ve been all over ‘ZABA’, works by Glass Animals. The album came out in June and I’ve listened to it off and on since, but this week I’ve had it on all the time. It’s just a slick kind of LP. I can’t honestly pin-point what it is I love about it so much.. but I can definitely recommend it. Just turn the lights down low, lie down on your bed, put in your headphones and just relax- then you’ll see.. sorry hear, what I’m talking about. Down below is one of my favourites from them; Gooey.

And with that, I’ll leave you to feast your ears on all 6 of my music loves. As always, I hope your monday was a pleasant one and that now you can sit back and relax. I’ll be doing exactly that a little later on, but I’m headed of to a Spark FM meeting in around an hour- so stay tuned for information on that in the coming days/weeks. Yup, I think that’s all I’ve got left to say, other than; I hope you have a fantastic week.

Forward Planning!

Monday, October 13th, 2014

Hi there guys, today (Monday, October 2013th, 2014) was a day I decided to give to myself to just chill out and relax. I did a small amount of work in the morning, but I decided to stop and head out into town for some grub with one of my flatmates. We headed to the newly opened Ed’s Diner in The Bridges. For those of you that don’t know- The Bridges is the local, town centre shopping centre with a range of shops in. Ed’s Diner is a 1950’s kind of themed restaurant. It’s pretty nifty..

I know, I regret saying it. BUT that being said- the food is pretty epic and the milkshakes are boss! They do not mess around.

Shameful obligatory #instafoodporn 'gram because I'm at Ed's. Food baby x100000000. First and last food post in a long while I imagine! #EdsDiner #Sunderland #SunderlandUniversity #FoodPorn #FoodComa #ShamefulFoodPost #SorryNotSorryThoughBecauseItsEds #LivesOnline #Blogging #tag

From there, I headed around town for some shopping. This picture may or may not have been bought.. IMG_1074

No regrets. (In a few weeks I’ll be shooting a video all about my room in my halls, and how I’ve made it feel more me!)

After that there was a haircut and a game of Worms on the X-Box back at the flat. I was not a winner. Which meant the trip to ‘Spoons with my best friend from home was to drown my sorrows!

Now, I’m back in my room and my creative juices are a flowing! I’ve made a vague plan of my uploads in the next few weeks and months, all to help me in the long run. In the process I feel like I’ve stumbled onto a solid golden idea. Which, I’m sorry to say I’m not going to say anything about. What I will say is that, if it was to work- it’d be something pretty epic, it’d be something to be filmed and would coincide with milestone for myself as a blogger. I’m that excited about the possibility of it, that I’m going to go to speak to someone about it tomorrow. That’s all your getting. Spoilers. Fingers, toes and everything crossed.

To to prove I’m not telling fibs about my future plans, I’ll give you a little list of things to come;

#1. An introduction to my YouTube Channel. It’s currently on lockdown and not even I can access it yet, but it’s on it’s way. As is the microphone I’ve ordered. I pinky swear.

#2. Once filming is up and running I’ll be giving you a tour of my digs for my first year, as well as (if they’re game) interviewing my flatmates.

#3. Uni Cooking Hacks. I’ll bring some videos with recipes to make cooking at uni so easy it’ll bring a tear to your eye.

#4. A Uni Room Hack video in which I’ll show you how to make your halls room a bit more homely and a little less ‘Fire Door. Keep Shut’y.’.

#5. I plan to Vlog a week of my life. Yes, that means I’ll be uploading a whole day-to-day week of my life. Boring or not!

Basically guys, stick with me. I’m getting into my schedule now and I can’t wait to get filming for you. In the mean time, enjoy getting to know what I’m into music wise over on my Music Monday’s posts.

Thanks bromigos/sisterigos.. As always to keep up with me, you’ll find all of my links down below. Till next time guys,

Music Monday’s #3

Monday, October 13th, 2014

Aloha bromigo’s and sisterigo’s, how’s it going? MM is a little bit of a late one today, it’s been a busy one! With that in mind, lets get straight down to business.

#1. Up first this week is a song by an Aussie band that I love a massive about. ‘Boy and Bear’ is a kind of indie-folk band with five talented fellas at the forefront of it all. The album (‘Moonfire’) that this song is taken from is a cracker and there isn’t a song on it I can fault. Check it out!

#2. In second this week is a classic, probably most noticeable from 1985 film classic ‘The Breakfast Club’. Or, more commonly today thanks to film ‘Pitch Perfect’.  Either way, I’d like to think we all do the fist pump to the song, thanks to one of them. Just listening to this has got me wanting to watch the 1985 film.

#3. This week is a fairly new one. Going live on YouTube back in August, Labrinth just wanted it to ‘Let It Be’.. Shameful. I know I know that was a cheap trick, but sometimes they’re the best. Given, in this case it wasn’t. I’m going to have to admit it and say I was late to the party finding this song, (But, give me a break- I was in rural Maine, USA when it went live). Listen, like, enjoy and love!

#4. Is still one of my many jams. I’ve no shame in admitting it, and I don’t feel like I have to say anything more on it. We all love it, even if some don’t like to admit it! R Kelly I salute you.

#5. All I wanna do is make you dance with me. No? Oh, okay. Well, click play, listen and dance with someone else and I’ll sit here and groove at my desk.

#6. Now, by the third addition of Music Monday’s, I’d hope you knew the drill. If you don’t go back to the first one and take a look, then the second, then come back here to catch up! 5 songs, 1 album. This is how this goes down. So, Dan Croll you magical man, get yourself down here, because your album ‘Sweet Disarray’ is Music Monday’s #3 album choice. It’s been out a little while, but it’s still a winner in my eyes. Again, every song on it is a cracker. There’s not one I ever want to skip past. The song down below is the very first song I heard by Croll, and still love to this day! I’ve seen him live and he’s just as good. Listen and love!

That’s about it for this weeks Music Monday’s but be sure to check back next week #4. I hope you liked it.

Thanks and as always to keep up with me, you’ll find all of my links down below. Till next time guys,

Keeping Ahead of the University Life Game.

Thursday, October 9th, 2014

Firstly, If you’re reading this, it’s a win because it means I’ve managed to post instead of delete. Secondly, apart from the MusicMonday that went up three days ago, I’ve been pretty scarce from the blogosphere the last few days.

Now, whilst I’m certain coming to University was one of a few of the best decisions I’ve made in my life to date, I’d be lying if I said I was on the finest of form. Because, I’ll be honest- I’ve already felt a little bit like I’m struggling to get the best balance of going to uni and doing everything that brings with it, all whilst having two jobs and still trying to have a social life. I’ve already let some of my work, friendships and a relationship suffer because of stressing the small stuff.

I’m well aware that I’ve brought it on all on myself. And that’s fine. Looking at the big picture, I don’t regret it. I’m still intending on doing everything I’ve got going on right now. I just need to get a better plan of handling it all. So.. If there’s one thing to take from this seemingly obscure post it’s this;

image4

If you’re looking to start university, or are already there- stop and take a look at some things. Get an idea of what you really want your next three years to be like and make a plan. It’ll make your life a whole lot easier- believe me. I’m not saying have an unchangeable plan, but have a general idea of where you want to go with your university life. Get a planner- having a visual of what your week looks like can help a massive amount. Actually seeing what needs to be done when, or who you’re seeing where- it’s a lot easier than trying to remember it all.

I’m not saying this to defer you from coming to university- far from it in fact. I just don’t want anyone to go and get unnecessarily stressed for no reason, like I did. Uni is a new challenge and adventure- enjoy it, don’t stress and worry. In the coming weeks I’ll try and make a post with a few different tips on how to manage your workload and social-load. And, if you’re like me and can’t help but stress because that’s just the type of person you are.. Sit back, relax and enjoy some Lou Bega on me (You can thank me later);

If you’re this far down, thanks for sticking with this seemingly rant like post- but it’s with the best of intentions. If you have any questions, be sure to shoot them down below or head over to my Facebook or Twitter and I’ll be happy to help.

Thanks bromigos/sisterigos.. As always to keep up with me, you’ll find all of my links down below. Till next time guys,

-Liam

Music Monday’s #2

Monday, October 6th, 2014

Greeting’s folks, it’s a pretty gloomy Monday, and I know- but before you say anything.. I have something to make it better;

Music Mondays #2! Yes, I thought that I’d throw out some more music I’ve loved listening too recently. So, lets get started;

#1. Lately I’ve been thinking if you wanna get tough, then let’s play rough. Yup, it’s none other than Disclosure’s ‘White Noise’. Yes it’s a year and a bit old, but I still love it. Every time it comes on, on shuffle- I find myself unable to change it, instead I just turn it up.

#2. is song I feel like I can remember hearing a few times in the past, but never remembered it much until I found it on a flight safety video I had to write about a couple of months back (watch it, it’s the best kind of flight safety video I’ve seen!). Now it’s always finding it’s way onto my shuffled playlists.. even if it’s the remix I have, it still counts!

#3. Now, it’s probably one of my top favourite songs to listen to- so it was bound to be on a ‘MM’ at some point.. ‘Naive’ from The Kooks is, if we’re being honest- one of, if not their most known songs. Which is no bad thing- I still love it today.

#4. This song even brings it’s own dance along with it. I say that- I don’t think it’s a widely known one- but, a group of campers at the summer camp I work at over in the states did a talent show dance to this song.. and it caught on. It was like a camp epidemic. Whenever that song was on, the dance was there with it. Still do this day- when I here the song, I do the dance. No shame, sorry not sorry.

#5. This is yet again a song that kind of never really gets old.. ‘Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall’ by none other than Coldplay. I can still remember when I first heard this song in particular- it was like, 3, maybe 4 in the morning and I just could not sleep- and I came across this as it pretty much went live online, and just absolutely loved it. I can recall just playing it and playing it again and again. I think this was also the song that made me go “I 100% want to go and see a Coldplay live gig. It’d just be epic.”

#6. Now, I’m pretty sold on Music Monday’s being a 5 song, 1 album kind of deal- so I’m going to stick with it. This time, it’s ‘Wanted On Voage’ from Mr. George Ezra. Again, I’m all for honestly as much as possible- so I’ll confess- I’m fairly certain I have a fully fledged man crush on Ezra right now. I just cannot get enough of him. I’ve listened to his album (Which, became a #1 whilst I wrote this post) constantly since it’s drop back in June. I’ve watched interviews he’s done and even just fan girl’ed over his BBC Radio1 Live Lounge (It’s bloody fantastic, he does a cover of a Cindi Lauper song) The video down below is the first track on the album, ‘Blame It on Me’. The album is fantastic and I could and would rave on about him all day, but I’ll stop now before it’s too late.. Just go listen to the album and you’ll see what I mean.

My fan-girling brings a close to the second edition of Music Monday’s. I hope you guys enjoyed it and of course- please feel free to post down below in the comments anything you think I should listen to, I’d love to hear ’em.

Thanks for listening guys, and as always to keep up with me, you’ll find all of my links down below. Till next time guys,

-Liam

A Night at Lane 7, Newcastle.

Wednesday, October 1st, 2014

Bromigo’s, sisterigo’s- how’s it going?

The monday just gone was a massively busy one for me. I had to run back and forward across the city a few times.. (When I say run, what I really mean is get on a few different metros). I then had to get back to my flat in time for my mum and nephew coming to see me. I made it in time, they came, they stayed, they had some laughs and then left. Flash forward a few hours later, it was time to greet two of my long time friends to my flat.. and my flatmates! What better way to break the ice then bowling? I didn’t win.. but I wasn’t last either. That’s all I’ll say on the matter.

Sadly, it turned out that I had to attend a (very) last minute meeting at work up in Newcastle. Meaning, bowling was cut short and I was hopping on yet another metro. Jump forward two hours later and the meeting was over, and I was free again. As I’d been away a while, I hadn’t been to one of my favourite spots in town for a while. Lane 7. It was time to change that.

“WELCOME TO LANE7

Forget everything you thought you knew about bowling alleys, because Lane7 is different. Really different.

Forget formica tables, moulded seats and plastic hot-dogs imagine the best bar you’ve ever been to and then add a first class dining experience, ten-pin bowling, ping-pong, pool, Karaoke and an unrivalled atmosphere into the mix. We’re perfect for nights out with mates, for parties and even for corporate events.

All in all, it’s a pretty cool concept, and you’re going to love it.”

And they weren’t wrong. I do love it. A lot. It’s fresh, it’s new, it’s different. What’s not to love. I can’t recommend it enough.

Even if you’re not bowling, it’s a fantastic place to go out to meet with friends. They’ve got a great looking bar area thats great to be in, with a wide selection of drinks.. which includes the ‘Hard Shakes’. They’re fantastic, I’ve tried almost all of them on the menu, but they’re always in an effort to bring new flavours out, which keeps it fresh.

IMG_0477  IMG_0488

IMG_0484 IMG_0506

All in all, I can rave on and on about this place all day long. Yeah, some of the stuff they sell may be slightly overpriced, but I feel that you get what you pay for, and what you get drink, food, environment and establishment wise is well worth it. It has such a fantastic mix of things to do, eat and drink. Also, as someone who is a huge lover of all things music, I have to say the music they have on in there is absolutely top notch.  The atmosphere is electric!

Please, get yourself to Lane7!
