Music Monday’s #1

Monday, September 29th, 2014

Aloha bromigo’s and sisterigo’s, how’s it going? I was going to hold this post till next week, but I’ve decided to make it a double whammy today and give 2 posts. So, let Music Monday’s commence..

I was sat on the metro on my way to Newcastle the other day, flicking through my Spotify playlist and thought it might be an idea to share what I’ve been listening too lately, purely in an effort to hopefully be able to share with you some more about me, what I’m into and who knows, maybe some stuff you’ve never heard of before and really like.

Now, this doesn’t mean it has to be something brand new on the music scene. Oh no, this blog is an all inclusive kind of blog, where all types of everything can come and be smothered with appreciation. There could be a varied mix of new, old, updated, recovered, remixed, everything. I may even share a guilty pleasure or two.. We all have them, so why not share the guilt! Ok, let’s get started shall we;

#1. first up we have a relatively new song from an artist called fyfe. I’ve listened to his stuff for a while, even before he was ‘fyfe’ and I’ve loved it all. This song ‘For You’ does not disappoint. It’s brilliant, and I still can’t stop listening to it. Take a listen down below and let me know what you think;

#2. is a remix by none other than the talented fella that is Flume. It’s Lorde’s ‘Tennis Court’. In fine Flume fashion (try and say that again and again really quick..) it sounds fresh and slick. I’m still loving it.

#3. “I don’t want to be anything other than what I’ve been try’na be lately..” Now, I think this might just be my all time favourite song. It’s ‘I Don’t Want to Be’ by Mr Gavin DeGraw. I can’t not listen to this every once in awhile. It just never gets old!

#4. is ‘In a Perfect World’ by The Sam Chase. Ever since I heard it last year on a YouTube series I watched a little while ago, I’ve loved it. Ever since then I’ve listened to his album again and again and it’s just right up my street.

#5. goes to Ryn Weaver for ‘OctaHate’. Thank you Spotify browse for helping me find this. I’m a fan.

#6. This one is more than just a song. In fact, its an entire album. Monday the 15th of September saw Mr Vance Joy’s album ‘Dream Your Life Away’ finally drop in the UK. All I can say is, is that for me it was worth the wait. I can’t fault any of the songs on the album, they’re all a solid listen and I love them. Kudos VJ. Down below is just one of the songs on the incredible album.

That wraps up ‘Music Mondays’ (real original by the way Liam, original indeed) from my side, but I’d love to see some comments down below with some musical suggestions for me to have a listen to, so please feel free. I hope you guys enjoyed getting a 5 song, 1 album insight into my music tastes this week, and that you found something you maybe hadn’t heard before.

In the spirit of all things music- I’m going to start and link my Spotify down below so that you can see what I’ve been listening to, before the second edition of ‘MM’s’ and give it a follow if you’d like!

To keep up with me, check out all of my social media links down below. Till next time guys,

Fresh..

Monday, September 29th, 2014

Aloha bromigo’s and sisterigo’s, how’s it going?

The first week of university means one thing: Freshers.

I mean, of course theres getting to know your class, and tutors, your new surroundings, your new flatmates, all that stuff.. but if we’re all being honest (and this is a place of honesty guys, remember that.) Freshers is where it’s at.  Now whilst I only got to attend a few freshers events due to other things happening, like being bogged down with a hybrid early-freshers flu (Thanks for that Libby) that got intimate with the fact I hadn’t really stopped in the last four months. Hate me for saying it, but traveling is tiring. Incredible yes, without a shadow of a doubt, but tiring all the same! So that on top of working my arse off for the summer, it got to me.

All that being said, the ones I did attend were great. I headed to the Foam Party and stood outside like an idiot for ages (I didn’t get my wristband sorted beforehand even though it sat waiting for me in an office at City Campus). Eventually getting in, we headed to the bar and I gave up straight away. I’d rather not be packed tight into a crowd for a drink. I’ve got an entry stamp on my hand now, I can leave, head somewhere for a few drinks and be back in time for the foam to get started. Flash forward to about 1:45AM and I was drowning in it. At one point I legit thought I was going to die, (I couldn’t see or breath, it was touch and go guys, it really was.)Later I managed to escape and start the difficult task of finding somewhere that would let me buy food on my card. 6 establishments later (seriously Sunderland, 6? What are you doing? That would never happen in Newcastle) a pizza shop that I can’t remember the name or location of, became my saviour. On the other side of the week was the paint party and 21st Century Box, which was insane. We all headed out as a flat to enjoy it, and got absolutley covered. The walk home was a cold one, and as our hot water goes off at 10PM, trying to shower at 3AM was just as bad, if not worse. But, it was all worth it, even if I did get some yellow paint on my formally white bedspread..

Paint Party! (I’m sorry guys, I have no idea why my hand did that, it had a mind of it’s own.. Photo courtesy of 21st Century Box Paint Party.)

Fresher’s wasn’t all about the crazy hyped events for me though, it was about getting to know my new flatmates, and adjusting to living in a new city. This all consisted of headed to the casino (where I just crashed and burned. Casino 1, Liam -1. UPDATE: We went again, I broke even, so it’s like I never went.), bowling, cards night, drinks and pool out and about and a games night. It was good to get to know them. I’m happy and lucky enough to say I’ve got a golden flat. They’re wicked! If you’re reading this guys, thank you for accepting and being as puny as I am.

As for the city so far- I haven’t encountered any problems, it’s got everything I need and could want. In fact, it’s a perfect mix of change and familiarity- I’m in another city yes, but I’m just a metro ride away from home. Well, technically it’s a metro and a bus ride, but that doesn’t sound as good you know? To round up, I’m happy. It’s all good right now- I’ve just started my course and I can’t wait to get my teeth stuck into it! I also plan on getting involved with as much as Spark as I can, so I’m pretty excited! Freshers fayre was cool too, it was full of activity, and most importantly- free stuff! Winning!

Free stuff is the best stuff. Winning. #SunFreshers #Freshers #FreshersFayre #LivesOnline #Blog #FreeStuff #Winning

As I’m just finding my feet, I aim to upload every Monday, if not sooner, so make sure you check back here regularly.

Goodbye Summer, Hello Sunderland!

Friday, September 26th, 2014

The summer of 2013 was an incredible time in my life, and so was 2014. All for the exact same reasons, but for brand new ones as well. In June I left my UK life behind and headed back to the United States of America, for the second summer in a row, all to spend my days working just a few steps away from the shores of Lake Thompson. There were times where it was tough yes, but it was awesome all the same. I got to see incredible old friends, and meet incredible new ones as well. Who wouldn’t want that!

B Staff Winners x

B Staff. The ‘B’ is for best. x

Once all of the work was done, it was time to say goodbye to Lake Thompson, possibly for good. Who knows if I’ll go back again.. only time will tell. This, though brought the thing that had gotten me through all the bad days. TRAVEL!

Golden Gate Vibes! x

Santa Monica sun-sittin' x Hello NYC!

It was incredible. I loved every minute of it, and my bank balance can vouch for that! If you want to take a look at more of my pictures, head over to instagram (the link is down below) where you’ll find my whole profile. Or, use the #tag #LiamericaRound2 for this years ‘grammed photos. If you’re up for a throwback, go take a look at last years photos (with an invasion of a couple annoyingly called Liam and Erica.) To do so, just use #Liamerica.

But, they say all good things come to an end, and that they did. Mostly. While its a goodbye to summer, it’s a hello to Sunderland. To a new type of adventure. University!

I’ve been given the opportunity to blog my first year away here, where I’ll be studying Mass Communications, living away from home with people I don’t know, hopefully having the best time of my life.. so lets get going! This is just a short introduction, whilst I attempt to figure out how to get the layout the way I want it, but more posts will be available soon.
