Coffee break…

As we are such hard working pharmacy students at UoS, it is no surprise that we need our daily dose of coffee!! Luckily in Sunderland there is no short supply of the stuff. During our lunch breaks my friends and I go into the town centre, or the library cafe……definitely necessary during our exam period!

New promotional video for Pharmacy at UoS

Today I was lucky enough to take part in the new video for Pharmacy at UoS. The video is aimed for all you prospective students and anyone who is interested in learning about Pharmacy here. I answered a few short questions about my blog at livesonline. I can’t say when the video is released, but hopefully it won’t be in the too distant future!!

Easter Weekend!

So far I have spent about a week back home in London! I’ve been studying a little bit, and also having lots of fun seeing lots of friends who are back home for easter! Yesterday my sister-in-law’s baby was supposed to be due..however no sign of baby Hill yet..!

I have lots of photos from this week, however in particular today I went to the Arsenal football game. I live right next to the Emirates stadium in north London, so it’s really easy to get to. And my dad is a season ticket holder so I decided to spend the day with him and my really good friend Andreas there. Andreas studies Medicine at UCL and is in his 3rd yr, so we had lots to talk about…Pharmacy/Medicine wise. What a super fun day!!

Friday, 22nd March!

So guys, tomorrow I think I will go home to London. I’m so excited to go back as I’m going to become an aunty next week! Tonight my brother phoned me to ask me 3 questions; 1. Do I think he and his wife’s baby will be a boy a girl? 2. What day do I think it will be born? and 3. How much will it weigh? It got me sooo excited! He asked my dad too, so hopefully I win and have guessed correctly! I have so much to do at home studying wise, so I won’t be back for too long. Updates soon to come !

Last chemistry lab of this semester!

Last week we said bye bye to Dean, our chem lab tutor for the last 2yrs! Dean has been so helpful, but he doesn’t take labs past level 2 as he is so busy! Never mind, we’ll see ya around Dean! Thanks for being a fun tutor!

Bubble tea in NCL

Bubble tea is my FAVOURITE drink ever! I’ve had it twice in the past week, but unfortunately it means a whole train ride to Newcastle! Last week I went to NCL with my roommate Nicola to go shopping, and eat sushi. Today I went to NCL again with my friends Maria, Mariam, Mark, David and Fady to get sushi again !! This time from a different restaurant. It was good! We went to China town after to the bubble tea shop “bubble cha” and got honeydew w/milk tea with tapioca and lychee!!

Dispensing Mock!!

I had my dispensing MOCK exam 2 weeks ago. The dispensing exam is one of the biggest hurdles we, as students, have to get past during pharmacy school. It’s probably one of our most stressful exams as we have to get through 8 prescriptions which have either flaws, or rarely, no flaws. The problem with the prescription could be clinical, such as the medicine is not appropriate for the patient, in summary whether it is too or low of a dose, the frequency of taking the medication is wrong, or there are interactions between 2 or more drugs. The prescription could also be wrong due to legal reasons, such as the prescriber’s details are incorrect, there is no date, signature, the prescriber can’t legally prescribe that drug….etc..! FORTUNATELY our fantastic senior tutor Mr. John Sherwood every other week recorded himself going through all the practise prescriptions in class — so we could learn from the mistakes and prepare better! Again, I spent a couple of late nights in the library. My best friend Mariam brought her kettle, tea and milk one evening as the cafe was closed and we of course needed our caffeine! The mock went ok for me, but I don’t want to say too much, not until I’ve done the real one that is! We managed to have some fun too whilst studying…that’s the nice thing about being able to effectively study with friends.

Time for a change…

During the middle of my hectic few weeks at uni I decided to change my hair colour in Sunderland… I was kind of nervous to do it here, as I normally only go to salon’s in London. But it was ok, after a minor disaster (see march update…) one of my best friends Andrew came along to make my 3hrs there entertaining!
