Easter Weekend!

Saturday, March 30th, 2013

So far I have spent about a week back home in London! I’ve been studying a little bit, and also having lots of fun seeing lots of friends who are back home for easter! Yesterday my sister-in-law’s baby was supposed to be due..however no sign of baby Hill yet..!

I have lots of photos from this week, however in particular today I went to the Arsenal football game. I live right next to the Emirates stadium in north London, so it’s really easy to get to. And my dad is a season ticket holder so I decided to spend the day with him and my really good friend Andreas there. Andreas studies Medicine at UCL and is in his 3rd yr, so we had lots to talk about…Pharmacy/Medicine wise. What a super fun day!!

Friday, 22nd March!

Thursday, March 21st, 2013

So guys, tomorrow I think I will go home to London. I’m so excited to go back as I’m going to become an aunty next week! Tonight my brother phoned me to ask me 3 questions; 1. Do I think he and his wife’s baby will be a boy a girl? 2. What day do I think it will be born? and 3. How much will it weigh? It got me sooo excited! He asked my dad too, so hopefully I win and have guessed correctly! I have so much to do at home studying wise, so I won’t be back for too long. Updates soon to come !

Bubble tea in NCL

Thursday, March 21st, 2013

Bubble tea is my FAVOURITE drink ever! I’ve had it twice in the past week, but unfortunately it means a whole train ride to Newcastle! Last week I went to NCL with my roommate Nicola to go shopping, and eat sushi. Today I went to NCL again with my friends Maria, Mariam, Mark, David and Fady to get sushi again !! This time from a different restaurant. It was good! We went to China town after to the bubble tea shop “bubble cha” and got honeydew w/milk tea with tapioca and lychee!!

Dispensing Mock!!

Thursday, March 21st, 2013

I had my dispensing MOCK exam 2 weeks ago. The dispensing exam is one of the biggest hurdles we, as students, have to get past during pharmacy school. It’s probably one of our most stressful exams as we have to get through 8 prescriptions which have either flaws, or rarely, no flaws. The problem with the prescription could be clinical, such as the medicine is not appropriate for the patient, in summary whether it is too or low of a dose, the frequency of taking the medication is wrong, or there are interactions between 2 or more drugs. The prescription could also be wrong due to legal reasons, such as the prescriber’s details are incorrect, there is no date, signature, the prescriber can’t legally prescribe that drug….etc..! FORTUNATELY our fantastic senior tutor Mr. John Sherwood every other week recorded himself going through all the practise prescriptions in class — so we could learn from the mistakes and prepare better! Again, I spent a couple of late nights in the library. My best friend Mariam brought her kettle, tea and milk one evening as the cafe was closed and we of course needed our caffeine! The mock went ok for me, but I don’t want to say too much, not until I’ve done the real one that is! We managed to have some fun too whilst studying…that’s the nice thing about being able to effectively study with friends.

Time for a change…

Thursday, March 21st, 2013

During the middle of my hectic few weeks at uni I decided to change my hair colour in Sunderland… I was kind of nervous to do it here, as I normally only go to salon’s in London. But it was ok, after a minor disaster (see march update…) one of my best friends Andrew came along to make my 3hrs there entertaining!

Latest MCQ!

Thursday, March 21st, 2013

About 3 weeks ago I had my final MCQ (multiple choice exam) this semester! wooo hoo!!! I spent some seriously late nights in the library coming up to that week…not great, but I had to get through 70 lectures, thats 7 weeks worth of lectures!! There was a lot of material that I needed to memorise and learn, as this semester has been on the gastro intestinal and respiratory system. Anyway, after structuring a studying timetable I was able to feel slightly confident for the test. After the test I felt SOOO BAD! I felt like I had failed…! But I found out a few days later that I had actually done pretty well, what a relief. So, lesson learned..I’ll try not to stay in the library so late next time trying to get all my revision done…. 🙂

Here’s my March update!!

UoS open day – Pharmacy!

Thursday, March 21st, 2013

A couple of weeks ago there was another open day, this time it was more specific to the degrees offered at Sunderland. I went along to this open day as a pharmacy student to give advice and share my experiences I have gained here. It was a really good day as I saw so many students who are interested in Pharmacy (hopefully some of you are reading this…!) So if you didn’t go, you missed out on going into our dispensing labs and making up your own medicinal creams from scratch, following a set of standard operating procedures (SOPs- you’ll hear about them all the time during pharmacy :p) to make sure that the manufacture was done to the best standard, and also *dispense* the medicine! How fun!

Anyway, here I am with Serene on this open day!
