Career Plans!

Hey everyone,

Well the Christmas break is looming, and there are only four more days left of this semester before I can relax.. for a little while anyway!

Second year so far has been pretty full on, I won’t lie! It’s felt like a big step up from first year but I think I have managed to cope with it quite well. Whenever I feel as though the work is getting on top of me I like to think of graduation and the job I hope to go into at the end of the course. Since the course began I have changed my mind so many times about the specific area of Social Work I want to specialise in, but that’s because everything interests me.

I think that the course has made me realise just how many different fields there are within social work and there are so many possibilities once you have the degree. For the moment I am still leaning towards working within Child Protection or  Children & Adolescent Mental Health, but no doubt that will be different by the time I get to third year!

I managed to catch a few of my class mates from the course to ask about their career plans post graduation and wasn’t surprised that everyone wanted to go along different avenues!

An interview with Drew Dalton

This week I managed to catch up with one of my lecturers from first year (which seems like forever ago) to find out all about a new programme he is running at the University.

Drew Dalton is programme leader for the Social Sciences programme, which is a four year course offering a foundation year before specialising in a specific social science degree. Don’t just take my word for it though, watch the video and see for yourself!

You can find out more information about the degree programme such as the required UCAS points and how to apply, from the following link:

You can also access Drew’s Facebook page to contact him directly and keep up to date with the course:

I hope this proves helpful, and if there is anything else you would like to know don’t be afraid to get in touch!

Manchester Christmas Markets

Hey everyone!

I absolutely LOVE living in the United Kingdom and like to see as many cities and towns as possible when I get a chance.. my most recent visit being to Manchester!

I have never been aside from driving through to get to the airport so I was really excited; and it did not disappoint. The purpose of the trip really was to start, and finish, my Christmas shopping (im attempting to be organised). As amazing as the Trafford Centre was I didn’t manage to get all of my presents. Why is it whenever you know you can spend money and you have it in your purse you never find what you want?! Yet when you shouldn’t be spending everything is amazing..

Whilst there it was essential that I paid a visit to the Christmas Markets, so I have put together a montage below of the experience (accompanied by my favourite christmas song ever ever EVER). Christmas Markets take place all over the UK, and they are really good for getting cute little gifts for people in your family who have everything and are difficult to buy for? You know the ones! It is also an awesome excuse to eat and drink until your heart is content.. or your jeans get too tight!

PS: One month today will be Christmas Day! I am far too excited.

Ed’s Easy Diner

Hey everyone!

Well after weeks of group meetings, late night library sessions and endless group messages we delivered our presentation and can breathe a HUGH sigh of relief because we passed. Not only that, but we passed and managed to get a first! I am so proud of all the girls in the group and we were so pleased that we decided to celebrate with a visit to Ed’s Easy Diner in The Bridges..

Ed’s is an American style throwback diner and serves Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner! We all decided to go for breakfast and it didn’t disappoint. If you aren’t already a member I would definitely recommend joining Ed’s Club. When you go you will be asked if you are a member and if not you will be given the opportunity to join, and once you have completed the form you will begin to receive newsletters and offers directly to your email address. I joined when we visited, and have since received an email with free food to enjoy next time I visit, can’t be bad!

Mature Students

Hi Guys!

As you all know, or now know, I recently had a birthday which makes me 23 years young, and also classed as a mature student!

I want to encourage more people who would be defined as a mature student to apply to study at University. For those of you who are feeling nervous about making the jump to higher education I have put together the video below especially for you. I hope it shows that your situation shouldn’t be a barrier to you coming to University!

Don’t just take my word for it though, you can find more information about being a mature student here:

PS: If anyone is interested in joining the Debating Society Stephen is President of, you can visit their Facebook page by following the link:

A visit to my hometown: Hartlepool!

Where is this term going please? Work is well and truly underway for the group presentation we are due to present in 2 weeks time, eek!  As a group we met today and had a slightly unusual style of meeting..visiting my hometown of Hartlepool!

None of the girls had been to Hartlepool before and they were excited to be a tourist for the day! We drove straight from our lecture to Hartlepool, which is around 20 miles away. First stop was Seaton Carew! It is the seaside area of Hartlepool so it was a must that we got Fish and Chips! I told everyone to order a ‘half lot’ which is the term us ‘Hartlepudlians’ use to order a half portion of Fish and Chips, and it didn’t disappoint. After devouring those, and dodging some scary looking seagulls in the process we went to the Arcades over the road and relived our childhood! Some enjoyed it a little too much it could be said (check out the video!) After exhausting ourselves on the dance machine we headed to ‘Fizzy Izzy’s’, which is an American type diner serving delicious ice cream sundaes!

Before leaving Hartlepool we also paid my Nana & Granda a quick visit! All 6 of us crammed into their living room and we had tea and freshly baked cupcakes made by the best baker around (my nana). Ever so British!

I have literally laughed today from start to finish and loved showing the girls the sights of my hometown! It made me realise how lucky I am to actually have a beach on my doorstep.. and also how much fun group work can be!
