Hello and Welcome! :)

Hello! *waves*

Welcome to my Lives Online blog!
As you have (hopefully) read from the right hand side of your screen, my name is Karina Rooney and I’m a 2nd year Law student at Sunderland University.

I wanted to do a little introduction blog to go alongside my introduction video (which is featured on the right hand side underneath my name) to give you a little more information about myself. My family home isn’t  too far from Sunderland, but I decided in my first year that i would move out and into my “own” place for university and become more independent, it is possibly one of the best decisions i have made so far in my life  (the first has to be picking Sunderland as my university!). In first year I lived in Halls of Residence at Panns bank and lived with five other students, four of which were freshers and one who was a postgraduate. Halls was great really, it was good living with people who were all starting uni for the first time, and we had  some great times! Occasionally there would be one or two noisy nights, with people returning from the pubs/clubs but your in Halls its to be expected!

1st year Law was amazing too! Lots of people say that the jump from A levels to a Degree is a huge one, and it is i wont lie, but the Law Lecturers are very supportive and help you continuously along the way. There are lots of events organised during freshers and through-out the year that allow you to mix with not only the whole year but all 3 years of the Law cohort. Last year there was a trip to London organised which was fantastic! There is also a trip to Amsterdam that runs around February time (this didn’t run last year due to numbers)  Also careers nights and specialized talks are organised during the year to allow everyone the opportunity to talk and ask questions to barristers and solicitors of local firms and it gets you noticed so they are worth it! All in all 1st year was a blast and i cant wait for 2nd year!

Speaking of 2nd year, this year i cant wait to start back at uni, there is going to be lots of work ahead of me for this year as not only am i taking 6 subjects this year (3 core modules and 3 options as standard) but im also part of the Law Society Committee, so i’ll be helping out and helping to plan events for all of the Law students so if you have anything you’d like us to try and do for you then feel free to  comment here and i’ll put it to the committee! I’m also an international Buddy this year meaning that i look after 3 students who have came from oversea’s and help them to settle in and adapt to living in the UK and help answer any questions they have, and of course im blogging for all you lovely people to follow my journey through it all! so its all busy busy busy! But i cant wait!!

The Pictures i have included are a few from the Law trip to London and a view of St Peters Campus from Panns Bank accomodation, they really are lovely views from there 🙂
