Happy Chinese New Year! 羊年快乐

I recently celebrated the Chinese new year at Sunderland Uni at the lantern festival celebration. It took place at North Shore (students union), run by the Hong Kong and Malaysian society, and it was amazing! Take a look at my blog 🙂

Final Semester…..

I finally made it into my final semester! I have only one class left (consumer psychology), and my dissertation and I will be finished… It has all gone so fast and feels like I only started my final year a couple of months ago!

Here is a quick update on what I have been doing so far in my final semester. If you follow me on my Instagram I am sure you already have an idea!

I have been spending most of my weekends in the library, the weekends are the best because the library is usually empty! As you can probably see,  I am doing my dissertation on a hospitality management subject, as I am using my placement year to collect data from. I am currently working on my Research Methods and trying not to get behind as I don’t work well under pressure at all!

2. Trips around the UK

My friend and I took a break from the library to Hadrian’s Wall! It was really beautiful, it was only a 30 minute drive from Sunderland and had some amazing views!

I also went to York, here i am with my friend Sam at York Minster, which is the largest gothic cathedral in Northern Europe.

3. Lives Online Photoshoot!

All of the Lives Online Bloggers recently had a photoshoot for the prospectus! We got the full treatment, including getting our hair and make-up done! It was a really fun day so keep a look out for us when the prospectus arrives!

4. Consumer Psychology

As I said earlier, my final class is Consumer Psychology, I did psychology at A level so I know quite a bit about it already, the course is really interesting so far! The assignment is also really fun and different from any of my other modules, we get to analyse our own key purchases over the next few weeks and analyse the factors influencing our deisions.

Trip to Edinburgh!

Hi everyone!

This weekend I took a trip to Edinburgh with the programme ‘Connect’ at the University. If you didn’t know about this group you can view their facebook page here .

Basically they organise regular trips and events in Sunderland, around the UK and Europe. It is a great way to make new friends, and to have fun whilst studying. It is always really cheap, the trip to Edinburgh only cost £15 which includes the coach there and back, and entrance into the castle which would have been £13 alone for a student!

Edinburgh Castle!

Amazing view from the Castle

More of the view!

For anyone interested, there is a trip to Manchester on March 7th, and a trip to the Lake District (which I want to go to!) on the 28th March! Just check out the Facebook and buy your tickets from the Student Union office.

My New Years Resolutions…

Hi everyone, I decided to share with you my resolutions for the new year. Hopefully some of you have made your own, or you can use mine!

1) Finish my Dissertation and graduate University, with at least a 2:1. Probably everyone’s resolution for final year students, but it is a tough one!

2) Eat healthier… being a student definitely makes you become less interested in healthy meals, we all use the excuse that we can’t afford it, but to be honest we all know it is because we are lazy/waste our money on takeaways and alcohol! It is actually more affordable than you think to eat healthy, which I will be making a video blog on very soon. There are plenty of websites with cheap student recipes online, here is one of my favorites I found – How to survive as a student.

3) Pick up a new hobby… preferably a sport! When I go back to Sunderland my friend and I are both going to participate in a sports club, we have plenty to choose from as you can see here . I also have wanted to give Yoga a try so will definitely start doing some classes.

4) Read more books, instead of wasting my time scrolling through Facebook. My boyfriend recently got me ‘The Alchemist’ and it was the first book I had read in a couple of years! It was such a good read, and I recommend everyone to read it.

The holidays are coming to an end!

H everyone, I hope you all enjoyed winter break and are ready to go back to College/Uni!

As it is still the holidays I decided to make another ‘travelling’ video before heading back to University, this time it is at Amsterdam! I remember when I was applying for study abroad, I was considering taking a semester here as I love the city.

I hope you enjoy the video!

Happy New Year!

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a good New Years celebration! Here is a video of my recent trip to London for New Years Eve. I definitely recommend you all take a trip there sometime, it is only a three hour train ride from Sunderland!

How To Find A Work Placement

Hi everyone! This is going to be a bit of a boring post, however for some I know it will be extremely useful!

A lot of people have been asking how easy is it to find a work placement whilst studying at Sunderland University. It is not as difficult as it may seem, especially with all the help and resources from the University. The best time to start applying for placements is when you are in your second year, as the placement year goes in between your second and third year.

Here is my advice and tips on how to secure a placement;

1)  Read the information about the placement year >> here <<

2) Inform Deborah Storer (the Placement Coordinator) that you are interested in doing a placement, you will then be put onto a database and sent opportunities via email about new placement opportunities for you to apply for, this is how I found mine.

3) I also found placements from looking myself, there are so many websites out there to find work placements for example Rate My Placement offers tons of placements all over the UK.

4) You are not limited to one, you could do two placements, for example both for six months and experience two different work cultures.

5) Apply as soon as possible, I noticed that a lot of the deadlines were the end of December! That means applying almost as soon as you go into second year and throughout.

6) Apply for as many as possible. I remember applying for about 50, it is very simple – the more you apply for the bigger chance you have!

Good Luck!
