Happy Thanksgiving Y’all!

Saturday, November 29th, 2014

Those who follow me on Instagram/Facebook may know that I am currently in Texas for a week! I spent Thanksgiving with my boyfriend and his family in Dallas! I also had some of the best food imaginable!

Some of you may be wondering what is Thanksgiving, I had no idea apart from what I had seen on the TV show Friends, when Joey got his head stuck in a turkey! So here is a simple explanation:

The celebration of Thanksgiving is, in general, a feast to give thanks for the fruits of the previous harvest. In America specifically, it dates back to the 1600s. There is still some argument over when the first Thanksgiving was, but many think it dates back to 1621, when the harvest was celebrated by the Pilgrims – Dutch settlers of the Plymouth Colony in what’s now called Massachusetts. It spread through the new country and was celebrated on different days in different communities until, in 1789, George Washington declared the first national Thanksgiving Day, it falls on the fourth Thursday of November.

The traditional Thanksgiving meal revolves around turkey, stuffing and vegetables. Similar to our Christmas dinner but without the gravy! Pumpkin pie is also very traditional for desert and was one of my favorites.

I also went to a ‘Friendsgiving’ basically another excuse for more turkey and celebrations with your friends!

I had an amazing time back in Texas but now it is time to get back to Sunderland!
