The Nervous Wait For Degree Results

Wednesday, June 26th, 2013

Since leaving Sunderland at the back end of May it has been a busy five weeks of work back at my local leisure centre for me. I have thrown myself into the job, racking up as many hours as I can possibly cram in, so as to alleviate the boredom and numb the pain of the tediously excruciating wait for my degree results.

I’m pretty sure that this coming Monday (July 1st) is d-day but I’m so nervous about the outcome that I haven’t even checked to confirm that yet. Even just writing about it has given me that horrible butterfly feeling in the pit of my stomach! It is very difficult to put any thoughts about my final mark to the back of my mind because every time I check Facebook or Twitter somebody somewhere seems to be talking about their own results!

I haven’t got any plans to celebrate my results should everything go to plan because I’m working all week but I’ll certainly make up for that following graduation. For now though if I’m not working, I’m at the gym or out running, it seems I will do literally anything to avoid thinking about opening that brown envelope next week.

Fingers crossed, I’ll get the mark I’ve been hoping for…

Sports Broadcast Reporting

Sunday, May 12th, 2013

I mentioned in a video blog recently that we had recorded a podcast as part of our ‘Sports Broadcast Reporting’ module and now that we have handed it in for marking I thought it’d be a good time to share it with you all. We recorded it over at St Peter’s campus in one of the radio studios and have had some good feedback from our tutor BBC, Sky Sports and STV reporter Dave Donaldson.

Video Diary April

Here’s my April video diary just to keep you all up to date with what I’m doing and tell you a bit about all of the deadlines that I’m frantically working to meet over the next few weeks!

My 2nd Week on The Independent Sports Desk (Part IIII)

Friday, February 15th, 2013

The penultimate day of my work experience on the Sports Desk, at The Independent, in London brought plenty of work on match previews for Saturday’s paper!

My 2nd Week on The Independent Sports Desk (Part III)

Wednesday, February 13th, 2013

Day three of my second week at the Independent was a little bit livelier than day two thankfully! There was plenty of talk in the office about the Madrid Vs Utd clash and I got stuck into more match previews.

My 2nd Week on The Independent Sports Desk (Part II)

Wednesday, February 13th, 2013

My second day back at The Independent was another quiet one for me! It can be frustrating sometimes when you’ve not had much to do all day, but I’m still learning all the time, listening to what people have to say, and enjoying being surrounded by award winning journalists!

My 2nd Week on The Independent Sports Desk (Part I)

Monday, February 11th, 2013

I’m back in London again this week for my second stint on the sports desk of the Independent newspaper. As I did back in November, I will be providing a day by day video diary of my time inside Northcliffe House and updating you all on my progress.

This is the final week of compulsory work placement that I’ll be doing for my degree at the University of Sunderland, and hopefully it’ll provide another fascinating learning curve for me.

Being Maroon 5 Episode II- Match Footage vs Plain White T’s

Wednesday, January 30th, 2013

With the season drawing to a close Maroon 5 played third placed Plain White T’s at Goals Soccer Centre in Sunderland. Controversial figure, player-manager Paul Carey was sidelined due to an injury sustained on a treadmill, at the University of Sunderland’s state of the art ‘CitySpace’ gym! Instead the Welshman took the opportunity to practice his commentary skills ahead of this semester’s Sports Broadcasting module!

As you can imagine the match analysis is as witty as ever! If you think back to what Sky Sports’ Fanzone was like in it’s heyday then you’ll have a good idea as to what Paul’s ramblings were like!

I realise that I’ve been pretty heavy in my coverage of the 5aside team but we have such a laugh doing it and it really is one of the highlights of our week… When we win of course! But from now on I’ll be focusing more on what my course entails in the next few blogs, just to mix thing up a little bit!

Don’t worry though, there’ll be a few more episodes of ‘Being Maroon 5’ in the next few months so that you can all get your fix of your favourite 5aside team!
