7 Quick and Cheap Things to Learn to Cook Before You Start University

(or while your at University if your still relying on takeaways)

As an extremely picky eater, this list may not be to interesting to those of you who are adventurous eaters. But there all quick, all easy, and are a good alternative if you don’t want to eat more oven chips or takeaways.

1. Fajitas

Nothing could be so easy and delicious, and there great if you ever dare to cook for anyone other than yourself.

So easy. If you haven’t made bolognese before, you’ll wonder why the hell not.


3.Homemade chicken nuggets

Rather than buying a bag of 90 to stick in your freezer with your oven chips, why not homemake some? You can guarantee it’s not processed rubbish, and they are so much nicer.


4.Homemade burgers

Similarly to chicken nuggets, you can pretty much make a burger with one or two ingredients. With things like beef and chicken you can freeze the meat you don’t want to use if your just cooking for yourself. I can make 4 burgers out of 500g of beef, it may seem expensive to buy at the time…but it’ll save you in the long run the amount you can get out it!


5.Chicken and pesto pasta

mmmmm. Pesto. And chicken. And Pasta, this combination is a god sent. Add in some parmesan and you’ve got a delicious snack, lunch or dinner! Parmesan again can seem expensive to buy, but it will last you for ever and goes so well with so much.


6.Pizza dough 

Again, this can save you so much money. And with pizza it’s like 100 different meals because you can change the topping every time.



The best thing about making your own chilli is you can make it as mild or super spicy as you like. Or like mine, ridiculously spicy, no beans!


The good things about these foods is you can add things, take them away and make them your own! There’s 7 simple meals to ensure you don’t have to have a takeaway.
